The Benefit of Erasmus Programmes

Xov, 23/08/2012 - 22:34

Erasmus programmes often prove to be one of the most rewarding thing university students do in their entire lives. The opportunity to live abroad for a certain amount of time gives them a number of additional benefits that they can use in future life and the Erasmus programme greatly facilitates this.

If you go on a student exchange to a university partnered with your home institution, you are entitled to a monthly grant ranging from EUR 270 -370 depending on which European coun-try you choose to study or work in. More specific information can be found on the British Council’s website. This enables you to cover the main expenses when living abroad in your chosen country and maybe also to enjoy some of the unique attractions that it has to offer, all without having to pay a penny of it back.

Living in a Foreign Country

Moving away from your home country, which for many people is where they have spent their entire lives, can be quite a daunting prospect. The culture, administration and maybe even language will be completely different to what you are used to. However getting used to a completely new country will do leaps and bounds for your confidence and opens up a whole world of possibilities for your future career paths. You will no longer feel restricted to your home country because you are nervous about moving somewhere else to work and will have the confidence and skills to get a job anywhere in the world.

Making Friends from all over the World

If you are studying at a foreign university, you will find, especially if you go into student ac-commodation, that you will be living and indeed studying in an international environment with neighbours from all over the world. Some of these people will become your closest friends during your time living abroad and you will forge friendships that last for years. Not only that but it will give you plenty of bases from which you can explore the world and if you choose to live abroad again at some point in the future, you may have somebody to give you advice about the best way to proceed to make your transition as smooth and hassle-free as possible.
