Tu gobierno está librando una guerra asesina ilegítima contra Irak, basada en mentiras, y tiene a otros países en la mira.

Tu gobierno tortura, y lo defiende.

Tu gobierno detiene indefinidamente por la menor sospecha o deporta en secreto, sin respetar el derecho de los detenidos de ver a un abogado.

Tu gobierno avanza día tras día hacia una teocracia, al gobierno de un fundamentalismo cristiano intransigente y cruel.

Tu gobierno suprime la ciencia que no cuadra con su agenda religiosa, política y económica, por lo que la presente y futuras generaciones pagarán un precio terrible.

Tu gobierno le quiere quitar a la mujer, aquí y en el resto del mundo, el derecho al control de la natalidad y al aborto.

Tu gobierno impone una cultura de avaricia, odio, intolerancia e ignorancia.

Todo esto lleva a muchos a pensar en Hitler, y con razón. El gobierno de Bush se ha propuesto redefinir la sociedad con un molde fascista por muchas generaciones. Tenemos que responder ya; el futuro está en juego.

Esto tiene a millones y millones angustiados y furiosos. Saben que tienen que hacerse oír, ¿pero cómo? El marco político tradicional no ofrece una alternativa, y lo captan.

La situación no va a pendular por su cuenta. Los que roban elecciones y creen que están cumpliendo una "misión divina" lucharán hasta el final.

No habrá un salvador del Partido Demócrata. Cada día se ve con más claridad lo fatal que es depositar la esperanza y la energía en "líderes" que nos recomiendan pactar con fascistas y fanáticos religiosos. De hecho, eso lo que hace es desmovilizarnos.

Pero el silencio o la parálisis NO son admisibles. Si no nos oponemos y movilizamos para parar esto, nos obligarán a aceptarlo. No hay de otra: hay que PARAR el desastroso rumbo del gobierno de Bush, y tenemos que asumir la responsabilidad de hacerlo.

Hay una forma de hacerlo. Estamos hablando de algo en una escala que podría efectuar un enorme cambio en este país y en el mundo. Es necesario dejar de luchar contra las atrocidades de Bush una por una, perdiendo terreno constantemente. Debemos y podemos crear un clima político que repudie el gobierno de Bush, que lo saque corriendo y que cambie el rumbo por el que ha encaminado la sociedad. Nosotros, a millones, debemos y podemos responsabilizarnos por cambiar el curso de la historia. De esta manera, extendemos unidad, apoyo y esperanza a la gente de todo el mundo que con tanta urgenica necesita y quiere ver el fin de este gobierno.

No será fácil. Si decimos la verdad, nos van a querer callar. Si nos movilizamos, nos van a querer parar. Pero nosotros hablamos en nombre de la mayoría de este país y del mundo, vamos a tenderles la mano a los que ha embaucado el gobierno de Bush y NO vamos a parar.

La neta: la historia está repleta de luchas justas que triunfaron contra enemigos superiores. Pero también está llena de ejemplos de gente que se mantuvo al margen, esperando pasivamente que pasara la tormenta, y quedó ahogada por horrores que no se imaginó. El futuro no está escrito.
