UNESCO: Mobile Learning for Expanding Educational Opportunities: Workshop Report (PDF)

“Mobile Learning for Expanding Educational Opportunities” is jointly produced by UNESCO, Thailand Office and the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI).

The report discusses the potential of mobile technologies for enhancing the reach and quality of education in the Asia-Pacific region. It outlines draft proposals for implementing mobile learning (m-learning) in respective countries and describes the concrete action plan of 13 countries in developing m-learning.

Enabling Mobile Learning

Enabling Mobile Learning - I was on the fence about this item but after mentioning it in my scrfeencast (see below) I guess I should include it. This is a good article; I was on the fence only because I'm not sure mobile learning is a special category worthy of special consideration. And you can see this reflected in the article: the features that characterize mobile learning are, arguably, those that also charaterize good e-learning generally. In addition, as the author writes, "people want 'anytime, anywhere' connections more than ever before." Quite true, and I'm always annoyed when my conference From [Edu_RSS]

Mobile Learning

Mobile Learning -

Mobile Learning: "The mobile revolution is finally here. Wherever one looks, the evidence of mobile penetration and adoption is irrefutable: cell phones, PDAs (personal digital assistants), MP3 players, portable game devices, handhelds, tablets, and laptops abound. No demographic is immune from this phenomenon. From toddlers to seniors, people are increasingly connected and are digitally communicating with each other in ways that would have been impossible to imagine only a few years ago."
Comment: Learning designers (and institutions as a whole) need to pay close attention to the mobile learning trend. Content is increasingly being accessed with mobile devices. Designing only for a browser limits many learning opportunities. Bill Gates has thoughts on mobile content access as well.

Mobile technologies and learning

Mobile technologies and learning - "This report presents some innovative ideas on how mobile technologies, such as smartphones and PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants), can be useful learning aids - particularly with young people who have not succeeded through traditional education." Learning and skills agency, 2005 Mobile technologies and learning The report contains the findings of a three-year pan-European research and development project, called m-learning, that set out to investigate whether mobile technologies can engage ‘hard to reach’ young people (the ‘NEETs’ group) in learning, and help those with literacy and numeracy difficulties." The Use of Palmtop Computers for Learning: A Review of the Literature.

The Use of Palmtop Computers for Learning: A Review of the Literature. - The m-learning project is a 3-year, pan-European research and development study which aims to use portable technologies to provide learning experiences relating to literacy and numeracy skill development for young adults aged 16-24 who are outside full-time formal education settings, and to promote the development and achievement of lifelong learning objectives. The use of palmtop, or handheld, computers is rapidly increasing in the developed world. [Distance-Educator.com]

Wireless

Wireless -

The Year of Living Wirelessly: "Right now, we flip the switch and our computers go out onto the Internet. But soon the tables will turn. We'll flip the switch and the Internet will find us."
Comment: More and more articles (see also Optimizing Your Sales Workforce through Mobile Learning) are proclaiming the coming era of mobile internet access. I remember the sense of freedom I experienced with my first large, bulky cellphone. The novelty of being constantly in touch with others quickly became a requirement. The adoption of cell phones was incredible - I can't think of many tools that developed as rapidly and became such a solid aspect of our daily lives. Wireless internet access will follow the same process - rapid adoption and transformative in interaction.

Sobre redes sen fíos

Senén Barro Ameneiro, Reitor da USC: Carta

(Recibido por correo electrónico)

Estimado decano/a, director/a:

Somos pioneiros no despregue desta rede a nivel nacional.

Reitor
